Software solutions security from the ground up
Our Hii Retail POS platform is built to ensure business continuity even in the most challenging situations. Delivered through Google Cloud. Secure by design. Continuous and reliable.
Protect your business with POS security
From lost revenue to store closures to hefty fines… the cost of IT security breaches for retailers is sky high. We know that today’s Point of Sale (POS) systems must be fail-safe, secure and continuous. That’s why we ensured Hii Retail was embedded with information security services for preventing, detecting and recovering from threats.
In recent years, POS operations have become increasingly vulnerable to threats such as:
╳ Hackers stealthily accessing confidential information over time
╳ Cybercriminals buying sensitive data and vulnerabilities on the dark web
╳ Extortion attempts
╳ Ransomware attacks directly on POS systems
╳ Outage of core master data systems caused by cyberattacks
╳ Other sophisticated hacker intrusions
How is Hii Retail POS designed for security?
Given the on-premise nature of many retailers’ existing POS, we strongly recommend deploying a cloud POS. Hii Retail is our cloud-native solution ensuring continuous operations with:

Secure-by-design POS delivered three ways
Hii Checkout on our Mobile POS (mPOS) application
- Our mobile POS application runs on standard Android based mobile devices that can be rapidly deployed in emergency scenarios
- The mPOS is designed to be capable of conducting all essential transactions seamlessly, ensuring that your sales processes remain uninterrupted
- The mobile nature of the solution provides the flexibility to adapt to various in-store layouts and customer interaction scenarios
- A large benefit with the mPOS is that it can be used for other purposes than just a back-up solution – such as outdoor sales near the store, queue busting or assistant selling
- The mobile POS also features mobile payments such as Vipps, Swish and NFT based payments (SoftPOS) plus a plug and play integration with SoftPay
Hii Checkout with consumer facing Scan & Go
- Embracing the increasing trend of customer autonomy, our Scan & Go feature empowers customers to use their own mobile devices for shopping (this solution requires a consumer facing app to be built)
- This technology enhances the customer experience whilst reducing dependency on traditional POS hardware and can serve as backup in case the traditional POS becomes unavailable
- Similar to mPOS, Scan & Go has the benefit of being integrated in day-to-day retailing and offers customers another way to shop
Hii Checkout running on existing POS hardware
- If the OS is compromised from a ransomware attack or similar, it could still be faster to reinstall the OS and just install the thin Checkout App than to install the full platform required for the primary POS application, assuming that it at least is dependent on a database system
- If the primary POS application is not operational, the cashier can be instructed to start the emergency solution instead which would then claim the peripherals and connect to the cloud
- The Hii Retail Checkout App can be pre-installed on existing POS hardware

Other FAQs about POS Systems
What’s the difference between on-premise and cloud-based POS?
Put simply, an on-premise POS is hosted locally with software installed and running on a company’s own hardware. A cloud-based POS is accessed via an internet connection and is stored and managed on third-party servers. To combat cyberattacks and fraud, it’s recommended to run a seamless and operative cloud POS solution as a backup.
What is the Google Cloud Platform (GCP)?
Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a suite of cloud computing services – including machine learning (ML), data storage, and computing.
The Google Cloud infrastructure consists of a set of physical assets and virtual resources that are contained in regional / zoned data centers across the world.
What does ‘secure by design’ mean?
Secure by design are software principles that build in customer and data security as a basic requirement. This means that products are safer from the get-go, rather than having security as an add-on feature.
What are the benefits of DevSecOps?
In recent years, a movement known as DevSecOps has emerged, with a focus on improving software and infrastructure security by incorporating automated, security specific testing into the CI / CD pipeline. We are embracing the DevSecOps movement at Extenda Retail, and have adopted many controls into our automated pipelines.
What mandatory information security training do your employees complete?
All Extenda Retail employees and contractors participate in mandatory information security training upon hire, repeating at regular intervals throughout their tenure. We focus on the prevention of successful attacks against our retail applications and infrastructure following a strategy of security by design.
What is ISO 27001?
ISO 27001 is one of the most globally recognized information security standards. Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), ISO 27001 provides a comprehensive framework for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an organization’s information security management system (ISMS). You can find out more about it here.
